English Law Week 2015: Applying English law in Russian business

From November 30 to December 2, 2015 the British Embassy in Moscow is hosting English Law Week 2015*, where leading Russian and foreign law experts discuss key trends in legal services in Russia, England and Wales.

On December 1, VEGAS LEX Partner, Head of International projects group Yuriy Bortnikov spoke at the session on the relevance of English law to Russian businesses in 2015 and beyond. During this session, the experts discussed the use of English law in doing business in Russia, the novelties of the Russian Civil Code that concern M&A transactions. They traced similarities between the new tools in the Civil Code with English law and discussed which companies are already looking for alternatives to English law and which of them continue using it.

Other issues to be addressed at the conference include recovering assets through bankruptcy and liquidation; managing complex international disputes; theoretical and practical aspects of enforcing debts through courts of England; corporate governance and others.
