VEGAS LEX on legal aspects of doing business in RussiaOn September 23, 2014, VEGAS LEX partner and head of the International Projects Group Yuriy Bortnikov spoke before an audience of major venture funds and IT companies including Facebook, LinkedIn and Survey Monkey in Palo Alto*, California. His presentation Doing Business in Russia: Essential Legal Matters was devoted to the legal specifics of the Russian environment for business. Mr. Bortnikov informed his audience of how the sanctions have affected US IT companies’ operation in Russia. He spoke about the most recent changes in the Russian legislation regulating the Internet and personal data, about the investment climate and the regulatory regime for foreign investors. He gave a detailed account of the Russian legal system and a comparative analysis of deals concluded in accordance with the Russian or British laws, citing the advantages and disadvantages of both systems. He also touched upon joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions in this context.
