VEGAS LEX to support 2015 Jessup Moot Court Competition

VEGAS LEX has been sponsoring the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition*, the largest and most prestigious moot competition in the world, for five years now**.

The Russian regional round*** will take place from January 28 to February 1 and will involve teams from over 40 Russian universities. The finals will take place on February 1 at Moscow's MGIMO University.

The best teams are to represent Russia in international rounds of the competition in Washington DC.

The Jessup 2015 Compromis will present questions of treaty interpretation and applicability in the face of changed circumstances; the propriety of counter-measures; and a number of other procedural and substantive issues.

Each team is required to conduct extensive legal research and to write two memorandums rationalizing both plaintiff and defendant positions of the case.

VEGAS LEX lawyers will sit on the jury and be actively involved in organizing the event as before.

* The Philip C. Jessup Competition is the world's largest moot court competition, a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the simulated International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. Established in 1959 at Harvard University, it is the world’s biggest educational initiative, with about 700 participating teams from more than 90 countries. The teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case. They deliver their speeches in English before a board of three judges.

** VEGAS LEX has been the competition's partner since 2011.

*** The Russian regional round of the Jessup competition among the largest, second only to the US one, and arouses keen interest in the student community, faculty and practicing lawyers. It is considered a major international educational event.
