In December 2004, Vegas-Lex attorneys won a dispute against the tax authorities on appeal in the Federal Arbitration Court for Povolzhskiy District on behalf of our longtime client OAO Volzhskiymezhraigaz.  The court upheld the decision of the Arbitration Court of Volgograd Province, which granted our client's petition to invalidate the results of an onsite tax inspection conducted by the federal tax office in the city of Volzhskiy.  As a result, the Company's tax liabilities were reduced by 25 million rubles.  It should be noted that this court decision was made on the basis of a de novo review of the case due to newly discovered evidence, after the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation had declined to review the case on the record.
