On May 31, 2016, Moscow hosted the Fifth International Forum Pharma And Biotech 2016: Storage of thermolabile drugs – three levels of control,* for the pharmaceutical sector and veterinary professionals on the development of the thermolabile** drugs and products industry in Russia.

Manager of VEGAS LEX Life sciences projects Maria Borzova delivered a report on Restrictive policy elements in the pharmaceutical sector: initiatives in ​​restricting exclusive rights and ‘odd man out’ problems, during an interactive session on the changes that accelerate the Russian pharmaceutical industry’s development.

Ms. Borzova talked about the restrictive initiatives in the field of intellectual property, which are the subject of a heated debate of the entire pharmaceutical industry: parallel imports and compulsory licensing. The expert also discussed the first results of applying of “odd man out” arrangement in the pharmaceutical sector.

Other issues discussed at the forum include Rospotrebnadzor’s draft rules for storage and transportation of drugs, which complete the formation of the common EAEU pharmaceutical market; the quality and safety of homeopathic medicines amid a rapid expansion of warehouse capacity; international experience and the Russian practice of inspection of manufacturers’ compliance with GMP requirements; accounting automation and storage of thermolabile products; and others.

** Thermolabile drugs are medicines that require stable temperatures maintained during storage and transportation, while disruption of recommended conditions may significantly affect the activity and toxicity of these drugs.
